WD WD45 Shift

Will the shift lever from a WD work on a WD45 or will the whole top plate and shifter assm., work on a WD45. My WD45 shift is very bad have 2 watch it when I shift or will hang up and will have to remove the shift and take it out of gear, I have got a good WD shift

I'm not really positive about this but I dont think it will. The trannies are different. I bought a WD at an auction that did'nt shift very well. When I took it apart I found the shift rails ,forks, and shifter in very good condition...they were in fact new. The WD was rebuilt with the 45 "Kit". The previous owner thought he had a WD 45 when he in fact had a WD. He had the whole shifter rebuilt for a 45 and it shifted poorly. I would think that the opposite would also apply. I'm sure that someone with more knowledge than I will be of better help...but thats my 2 cents. Bye the way...you should determine why it's not shifting correctly. It may be that you only need a new shifter "stick". The folks on this site were of great help in determining the problem with my 45 shift problems. LOL

Actually the later WDs (Ser.#127007 and up) have the "helical" cut gear tranny which continued with the WD-45. The shifter housings have the same part number. However, the "internals" are altogether different and do not interchange. It has been my experience (having tractors with both trannys) that the early tranny shifter mechanism is much less trouble prone than the later. There have been many discussions of the cure for shifter problems both here and on the "Unofficial Allis" site. You might try doing a search of the archives.
