Headgasket adhesive, yes / no????

I have removed the head on my WD to correct a problem where the coolant has been pulled into the engine oil. I saw a post earlier that suggested using a special gasket or a gasket adhesive. {"print-o-seal" Fel Pro Head gasket,if its available, or Copper Coat Spray Gasket sealer}.
I was planning on using motor oil on the head gasket and on the manifold gaskets. I was hoping that I could get some opinions before I begin re-assembly.
Right now, I can see evidence of coolant under the valvecover. It has been pumped thru the oiling tube and run back down the pushrod holes. I don't see any evidence of any problem with the compression plugs. I don't see anything wrong with the old head gasket. I don't see any evidence of coolant coming up around the sleeve.
Tomorrow, I am going to drop the oil pan and look to see if coolant has come down around a sleeve. I followed the torque pattern when removing the head. About half of the headbolts were only 1/3 torqued. The 1,2, 3 and 5 were 2/3 torqued. The head looks fine, my eagle eye doesn't see any warping. I only have a slight crack between cyls. 3 and 4.

Dave: On a head gasket for a WD I use the following procedures. If the gasket is metal coated on both sides as supplied by Allis I use a gasket sealer such as coppercoat or hightack on both sides. If it is a fibre coated gasket with fire rings then I install it dry. If the head bolts were as loose as you say they were then the water could have been leaking by the gasket into the engine but you should also have been having a problem with blowing water out of the radiator from engine compression. The crack at the top of the block should not be a problem. You are more likely to find that it is leaking by an o-ring at the bottom of one or more sleeves or I have seen blocks cracked at the bottom between sleeves one and two or three and four. By the way I hope that your eagle eye was using a straight edge to check the head for warping. Definitely don't use motor oil on your gaskets. I hope you find your leak and good luck. Gordon

Thanks for the feedback Gordon. I dropped the oilpan today. I can't tell any difference. There was about 2 gallons of coolant in it. Seems like the coolant stays up while I run it, just sort of bubbles. Last time I ran it for 1.5 hours or so. After You shut her down and she cools off she seems to siphon the coolant into the oil. If you run it again after that, it spits coolant everywhere.
I was trying to see today if there were any marked areas where coolant had been escaping the sleeves, but there is evidence of coolant being swashed around everywhere. I believe I may put the head back on correctly and cross my fingers. Dave
