Where do I find the serial # and what is involved in replacing the brakes?

follow the brake pedal rod to the back axle. there is a sheet metal cover with two 1/2 inch bolts holidng it on. remove cover. unscrew the adjuster, may take a little WD40 or similar spray. Next there are two pins, about 5/8 diameter going side to side and holding the brake band inside. take the c-clip off these pins on the inside. drownd the two pins wiht WD40 inside and out. scrape under the old brakes and get as much mud and crud out as possible. use a drift or punch and beat the two pins out from center to outside toward wheel. if it dont move, hit it harder. after it comes out 1/2 inch grab with vice grips and wiggle them out. now roll the brake lining around the drum. I have a 1/4 inch rod about 2 feet long with a bend on both ends. one to grab the brake band an the other to pull on. just pull hard and it should roll out. You can also jack up the wheel and roll it while pulling and it may help "roll" the band out. The bad news is the price of new, about $100. put anti-sieze on the pins when you reinstall.

Brake replacement isn't all that hard, but you have to take off the platform, fenders, lift arms and supports to get at them (which is better than a D-10/12 where you have to pull the final drives). Getting thebake shoes loop around the drums can be a little frustrating sometimes. Do not turn the drums - the brakes never seem to hold well once the drums are turned.

Lynn,
The S/N will be stamped into a flat boss just in front of the shifter. Tractor No will be cast in the housing right above the boss. You might have to scrape grease, dirt and paint off to read it. It should read; CAnnnnn where n = a number.
I've never replaced brakes on a CA, but sometimes years of neglect and rust will cause you to learn some "new' names to call your tractor.
