Preparation for painting

I am wondering about painting my tractor - it was a recent restoration about 9 years ago when it had a tidy up so the paint is not tooo bad...but it will need a total respray.
how do I go about it..are there any do's and don'ts in painting...how do I prepare the tractor...do I have to strip it down and hand sand every bit..can I sandblast and paint the whole thing at once...
fellas once again I need the advice of the forum

Peter; Above all it must be CLEEEEE EEEAN!!!!!, no grease, oil,wax,decals, no foriegn material or the paint will not stick. If the paint is not pealing or flaking you need only to sand it down with 240 grit aluminum oxide automotive paper. You will have to be through. Then wipe it down with prepsol and tack rags. Prime the whole thing with a good primer surfacer/sealer. I use three good heavy coats. Sand down again with 320 grit and wash well, be careful not to sand thru the primer. All the you will need to do now is let it dry completely and paint. Of course you will have to remove sheet metal parts,wheels,accessories,etc, at the start of this process, but you knew that. It's a lot of work,but, done properly the result is more than worth it. Good luck J.L.
