Help! de-grease my diesel

I have 1955 wd 45 diesel that I am getting ready to clean up and paint. The problem is that there is so much baked on grease and oil on the engine and frame that even a steam pressure washer that I rented does not clean it. Does anyone have any idea of something that will cut through the old grease.

Try DAWN The dish soap. It works good on locomotive diesels.

If you are going to re-paint the best thing I have used is ez-off oven cleaner follow directions but use water(hot) works better to remove (use wet suit&eye protection)

There's a couple cleaners you can try.Simple Green is a good cleaner and Davies DC99 is also very good. You can find them at auto parts and hardware stores. Be careful when you use it-the full strength soap will burn your hands! Wear protective gloves.

Use castrol super clean engine degreaser you can buy it at Wallmart its the best degreaser I've ever used . I've recommended it to others and they also have been very impressed. Use it full strength.

i used an engine degreaser or oven cleaner, let it set, then scrape with a putty knife. it takes forever, but gets it down to a managable level. Then use the high pressure blaster. In the end i ended up going over the entire engine and frame with a air powered wire brush inch by inch to get it clean enough and the old layers of paint off so it could be painted. It takes several evenings to get it all brushed, but its worth it in the end.
