CA Hand clutch

The CA I recently purchased, the hand clutch does not work. Is this a huge repair, or is typcially something that an average tractor restorer can do. The handle moves and feels good, but it does not stop the tractor. Thanks for any advice given.

Terry, My Lambert clutch was welded together to disable it as Dick L. mentioned. Took some time on the bench with a dremmel tool but was able to remove all welds.My guess as to why it was disabled would be that the seals were bad on both ends of the bull pinion shaft as oil leakage was making the clutch slip.-Not a tuff job when you get there.Might want to price the disc,springs,roller balls and seals before you decide. If I remember right the disc ran high !!!

Not too difficult, but some bull work. You are some what lucky, my hand clutch went and I could not move the tractor. After you get the housing off - (I was using a IT manual which has a missprint) You look down inside and try a pull the guts out. It has been a long time now but I believe the Manual states to remove a Snap ring. As I remember there is no snap ring. I did not have a source of heat or pullers and I ended up taking it to machine shop to pull apart. Once you get it all apart it is very straight foward to put everything back in place. You may not need heat or pullers to take it apart but I did, plus I spent alot of time looking for something that was not there.

Your experience is the best advertisement for NOT using "aftermarket" manuals (and usually parts). Anytime I buy a vehicle, I always buy the official factory manual. In perusing many "aftermarket" manuals, I, too, have discovered many typos, misinformation and parts that should be there (or no parts where there should have been!). I always urge people to try to get a reprint (if no original is still available) of the original official factory service manual for their particular vehicle.

Not that tough a job if you have a some sort of lift to slide the final drive off. Someone most likely disabled it because of slipping rather than repairing it. It that is what happened it will depend on what method was used as to what parts will be needed.
