I have a c allis that has cracks between the sleeves on the top of the engine block. The tractor ran fine, but fouled plugs occasionally and I could not keep the radiator full(probably because of the cracked block,I guess!!).Can anyone give me any optins here? The tractor is only used on a 5 foot belly mower on 3 acres.
Thanks in advance,Mike.

This is a routine problem for these engines. Any good rebuild shop can weld your block and remachine all to fit. I had to do the same with my CA. Runs like a top now!

This is common on all the "West Allis" blocks. Any reputable engine repair shop should have connections with shops that weld cracked blocks and heads. The block should be welded and re-machined where the sleeves set. Check also the lower webs for cracks. Pay close attention to the bores for the sleve o-rings when you reassemble so as to not damage o-rings. This seals the coolant from the crankcase, so these must be smooth and clean when you put it together. When you install the sleves. Hold them in the block with a bolt and washer in one of the head bolt holes with washer ouerlapping the edge of the sleve. This will keep the sleve from sliding up while you install the Pistons, and rotate the crank. The Head will hold them down after its installed. I recomend using a "print-o-seal" Fel Pro Head gasket,if its available, or Copper Coat Spray Gasket sealer on a metal gasket.
