WD-45 speed?

During the 70's I worked on neighboring farm that was mostly AC. He had (2) WD-45s, one narrow, one wide with loader; D-17; (4) 190XT; Cockshut 30; Cockshut 50; and (2)Ford 8N. The narrow front WD had a much faster ground speed than the wide front. Were there different xmsn gear ranges available, or maybe one was a WD and one was a WD-45? Have read most of the archives, but can't find anything abou this.

Just bought a small hay operation, and was thinking of picking up a pair of WD-45s, as they always seamed reliable and are cheap here.

Are you sure it was a WD or WD-45; or might the tricycle front have been a WC???

I drove a WC and a WD in early 1950, and out on the highway the WC would run circles around the WD (and from the speed figures I have seen for the WD-45, it would have done so with it, too). Incidentally, both the WC & WD that I drove were dual front tricycle types (the only kind I really like)

Everything I read has the WD and WD45 with an
engine speed of 1400 RPMs. The previously posted
speeds could be altered by tire size.

Farrell, I was quoting directly from my owner's manuals. I agree that the 45 is faster, I have one of each although the WD I have has 18.4x26 rears on it. John

I don't recall the speed, but I believe it is in the 11 mph range for the 45. I think the WD is about 1 mph slower. John

I have my manuals out, WD: 1st:2.5mph,2nd:3.5mph, 3rd:4.75mph, 4th:9mph. WD45: 1st:2.4mph,2nd:3.75mph,3rd:5mph, 4th:11.25mph. The WD had 11x28 rears and the 45 had 12x28 rears. The rated RPM on the WD was 1400 and the rated RPM on the 45 was 1677 to 1722. John

I think the 45 had about 100 more engine rpm, so a higher top speed.
