I am having trouble figuring out where to tighten the set screw on the throttle linkage rod on my 39 B. Right now I have the throttle lever in the middle position so that when I move it forward the lever on top of the magneto advances. I couldn't find anything in my books.
It seems like when I got this tractor idle was in this position.

Tom,

The way I set mine was:

1. Loosen the set screw and allow the linkage to slide freely.

2. Set your low idle speed with the adjustment screw on the carb.

3. Place the throttle lever in the first notch closest to the driver.

4. Push forward on the driver end of the linkage rod so as to remove all play in the rod, but still not start to stretch the governor spring.

5. Lock the set screw in that position.

Since the linkage does not directly advance the throttle, the engine speed should increase as you advance the throttle lever and start to put tension on the governor spring.

You may have to play with the adjustment a little so that when you move the lever to the second notch and higher, that the governor begins to advance the throttle smoothly.

Good Luck.
