I grew up with a WC, but now that I am not on the farm it is too big for my needs. All I want is a big lawn mower and a garden plow, but a Lawn tractor just doesn�t get it for me. Anyway, I saw a picture of a 1949 B on this site with a finish mower. It appeared to have 3 point and a pto. What years did the start putting hydraulics, pto and 3 point on the B. Is it a live pto and a true 3 point hitch or the AC hook up? Maybe I should start by asking if it�s even a good idea to put a five foot mower like that on a B? Wouldn�t they be a bit light in the front?

hydraulics and pto sahft came on most of the "B". dont know if it was standard, but probably was in the later years after the war. hydraulics are low volume, high pressure (3200 psi) made to run a small cylinder about 1 inch bore. These small cylinders can lift several hundred pounds for center mounted equipment or rear implements. The pto is not live, have to have the clutch out to run. Three point is another problem. They did not have them. Some guys make there own and some buy a package. there are several available. We run a 72 inch belly mower to do a 3 acre yard, but dont let the grass get over 6 inches tall. It works o.k. The "B" is one neat tractor, get it.

Steve what I am hearing you say is I would be better off to get a belly mower. Where would I be able to locate one. Is it something I could by new or would I have to search for one? The big question, how much would it cost? One other question, can you get any kind of blade to fit a B? Front or back it doesn't matter. I just want to plow my driveway in the winter and level out the gravel in the summer. How hard would something like that be to come by? I have seen Farmal Cubs with belly mounted blads did AC ever make anything like that?

Link this will give you an idea of what is available. I made mine, but hou have to be handy with a torch and drill press. You can buy a used rear blade for $150 or new for maybe $250 at Farm King etc. The mower deck to p of the line is WOODS, but they cost about what the tractor is worth. You can look in the local TRADER newspaper, the "classified ads" on this page at the top left side, or buy an economy version at your local FARM SUPPLY, etc. You can get a used one for $400-$700, but it may not be made for a "B" and will need modified brackets and a rear PTO pulley. Again it depends on how handy you are with tools and building brackets. Look at the classified ads at the top left of this page and scan for a few days and you will see some deals, or at least get some ideas. Also go to FARM SUPPLY and ask for brocures of equipment implements they can order.

I might add that some guys would prefer the rear mower since it can be removed quickly and the blade added. The center mower is more of a chore to remove every winter,but is easy to run, just like the small riding mowers. You can also get a drag type mower that rolls on a couple wheels and uses the PTO shaft to drive and does not need a lift. This is more of a field mower and does not finish well. Really depends on what you want, but more on how much money you can spend.

I priced out a woods mower a year or two ago from the woods dealer for my allis b, it ran around 1020.00 then. ED
