This is how I remove them. A lot of the hardware stores sell the longer drill bits.

Mike, When I go through a final drive I normally remove it from the tractor.Remove brake bands etc. Remove outer bearing retainer(4-cap screws), remove set screw and locking nut on brake drum (use hole on underside of housing).Heat (torch) up the area on the brake drum good where it contacts the shaft. Use a soft drift and drive the shaft out of the outer end of housing(brake drum must be removed). If it doesn't move you didn't get it hot enough or your hammer ain't big enough. While you are down you might as well replace the brake bands, the inner oil seal, and the oil seal in the differintial carrier. If the tractor is a "B" the bull pinion seal is a National # 450456,the differintial carrier seal is a National # 410163R. The bearings are Timkin #141384 with Timkin cup #14276.(2-sets) Hope this helps. Dale

Mike , You said the tractor was a"C"!!! The info should be good except for the info about the "B". Sorry, must still be asleep.

Mike, That's a good question. The bull gear runs in oil and would lube the pinion shaft and the bearings by bringing oil up with the teeth of the bull gear.My question would be, why is there a hole drilled through the shaft close to the inner bearing? Wondered if it was a lubrication thing or a manufacturing thing. Maybe one of the experts can jump in and help on this. I'm struggling with a final drive myself. Broke the set screw off in the brake drum last night. My problem is the drill bits I have are not long enough to drill through the screw from out of the housing. Will have to scratch my head on that one today.

DALE, I HAVE WELDED A PIECE OF RUNNING THREAD TO A DRILL BIT TO LENGTHEN IT. SOMETIMES WORKS. I HAVE STARTED TO REMOVE THE FINAL DRIVE HOUSING BUT MY SCHEDULE MAY NOT GET ME ANY FURTHER. IF YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE HAS BEARING NUMBERS FOR A C IT WOULD HELP ALOT. THANKS MIKE
