After attending a tractor show this weekend, I have some questions about Allis paint colors. I am currently repainting a WC for my neighbor. He also has a C that was redone a couple years ago. He bought the paint at an automotive paint store. It was mixed as Persian Orange. Here's the deal, his C and the WC in process is a lot brighter than a couple other ones there. The paint quality was a lot better looking, but the color seemed more orange. The other thing I noticed was the rear wheels. What is the alternative to Rust-oleum aluminum? It just didn't look right having bright silver wheels on. One guy had gray metal looking painted wheels, but I couldn't find him to ask what he used.

"paint on AC "G" and "B" I have ordered the replacement paint (part number 79014664 ) from an AC dealer (Persian Orange) it is not the color I painted the tractor. I had matched up the Orange from the "B" that was supposed to have the correct color. It's not the same..... The paint came from AGCO that the dealer got..... There is alot of controversey of correct color..... The serial# on the "G" is G22379 . The serial# on the "B" is B112294 . Can somebody help me out that knows for sure????? ???? Thanx, Keith

Dave,
I'm restoring an AC-"B" (48' vintage)and I'm using Dupont's version of Persian Orange. Dupont Dulux 29047 DH is the number on the side of the gallon. As I was spraying this color, I thought, man this looks like Plastikote's version of "Chevrolet Orange" in the spray can engine enamel. I painted a couple of small parts with the engine enamel, and set them next to the parts I shot with the gun. I couldn't tell the difference! They're a perfect match! Even the gloss is about the same when dry. I don't know if it would be a close match to the other paints that Phil posted, but I know what I'm using for the engine as well as touch-up. The Plastikote P/N is #200. Just a tip for the rest of the "Orange Lovers" like myself.... Steve B.

Dave,
You're right about there being several "interpretations" of Persian Orange.
Most of what is found in spray cans is Persian Orange #2 which is ok for anything A-C from 1960 until about 1970.
Persian Orange (usually referred to here as PO#1) is a pumpkin orange. Not a whole lot of red in it.
Here are the paint codes I have collected over the last 4 years that correspond to Persian Orange #1:
Ditzler PPG Now called Del Star - DAR60080
Martin-Senour paint - 99L3723
TISCO - TP280
Dupont DULUX - 008DH
Dupont - 008 OR
Thanks go to Harrell Sellers and Ted Buisker for most of these codes. Thanks to the others, whomever you may be, for the rest.

As for the rims, argent silver such as used on some painted truck bumpers looks more like the original galvanizing. This can be obtained from a Case-IH dealer in their Irongard paint line. I agree that the aluminum silver looks too bright.

Phil

Here is the paint code for what I'm using.

Western Hi-Glow Synthetic Enamel
number HG-41302A Persian Orange

I bought this at a local paint and auto body supply store. I've used it on cars with good success. It paints good and has a nice gloss that lasts. I believe its made by Sherwin-Williams.

I am restoring a '39 B and have noticed what you are talking about with the oranges. I was at a show last weekend and saw a B and a C that looked to be Omaha Orange.
I am painting mine with spray cans from Ace Hardware. The color is called AC Orange. It isn't quite Persian but close. I have very little room in my one car garage and have to paint bits and pieces outside so I don't want to keep mixing small amounts of paint. So far it looks pretty good.
I am going to use silver on my wheels I guess.

Tom, Try using Hammerite on your wheels. I use it on my Farmall wheels and it gives a good, hard grey color. The paint is pretty tough. Not so bright as silver. I got a can from an Ace Hardware here in Michigan. -BTD
