I am restoring a '50 WD. The hydraulics have been leaking at the pump. How much of a chore to take this out and correct???? Never have messed with hydraulics, the tractors I worked on were pre-hydraulics..... ..... ...just pliersd and bailing wire.

If the leak is near the top of the pump, remove the hold position valve (or the hose tee if you don't have the valve) and replace the little o-ring before you attempt to remove the pump.

If you do need to pull the pump, the easiest way I've found (after draining the oil from the reservoir *and* the pump body) is to remove the remote ram steel line from the hold position valve and then remove the two bolts holding that valve to the top of the pump body. There should be enough play in the rubber lines to move the valve out of your way. The pump itself is attached to the tractor by three nuts and two bolts. Removing the pump from the tractor is a little tricky as it's a tight fit, but by twisting it this way and that you can get the cam followers and oil pickup tube clear of the transmission and frame.

Once you get it on your workbench tell us what you find and we can help you go through the R&R.

Good luck!

You amy want to take your hydraulic pump in for a rebuild. The hydraulics on my WD were leaking and I took it in to Gerlachs in Cottage Grove. I can't remember the exact details because this was 3 years ago, but there are vavles and springs inside the pump that can case it to leak. Pu a new gasket on and it has not leaked since then. You may need help to put the pump back in because of the close quarters and pressure of the springs.
Good luck and always check the manual as a last resort.
