FMJ Magneto from AC C Tractor

Thanks to all who have helped with my past questions. I still have a problem with my magneto, though. I've replaced plugs, condensor, points, and magneto coil and I'm not getting a spark. With the magneto off, and one plug on, I still don't get a spark when I crank the magneto.
What can I check next? The tractor had been running and started to die after warming up. A short in the warmed up coil was suggested as a cause for this behavior. But the coil has been replaced. If the magneto itself is shot, any ideas on what it costs to have it repaired? Thanks in advance.

I found a good article on this site about magneto timing and I think I'm finally understanding this "simple" process. Duey, I think you described it previously - it's finally sinking in. My problem could be that I don't have the gears on the magneto and rotor aligned properly. I've found the beveled gear tooth on the magneto side, but unfortunately, I can't see the timing mark on the gear on the rotor side. Maybe I'll pop the rotor cover off and align the gears by turning the rotor to the number 1 plug wire, and making a mark on the rotor gear. Then again, this may be a job for someone who knows about these things...

Hey Bill,
I looked at the cap and rotor on an old mag I have here. The rotor gear has a plastic disc in the center that has the "C" on it for timing the gear. If you don't have this, I also looked where the rotor was pointed when the "C" was down. The top edge of the rotor contact was aligned with the lower edge of the timing lug inside the cap. In other words the rotor contact is just getting to the timing lug. You will have to rotate the mag to align the rotor and timing lug after you get the gears timed. Duey

Duey - I just took a look at the rotor gear and there appears to be something that looks like a "C". I rotated the C down like you said, and sure enough, I found two beveled teeth at the bottom of the rotor gear. These must be the two teeth that align on either side of the single beveled tooth on the mag gear. This is getting exciting...

Thanks for your post Duey. I tried aligning the gears by popping off the rotor cap and turning the rotor until the number 1 wire post was making contact. On the magneto, I rotated the timing notch (the beveled tooth) straight down since this put the points together, and without letting anything move, I put the cap back on. With this crude attempt I still got no spark. I will follow your advice and see if anything improves. I'll let you know....Thanks again. One of these days it'll start working.
