I assume after looking over my tractor, the axel housings have to be split to change out my brakes, does anyone have personal experience with this? The year of the tractor is approximatley 1957

Be sure to take precautions against the asbestos.
If you have a good respirator Ken, thats great. But, if you do not have access to one, make sure the bottom drain hole is clear and wet the bands down before removing them and keep them wet while working on them. Be sure to dispose of all residue. Maybe I am a little over cautious on this, but my Dad has lung cancer and asbestos is the reason. Good Luck and have fun.

Don't, I repeat Don't split the tractor. The brakes come right out of the wheel housing after you take the seat bracket off. If you want instructionson changing brakes out. Send me your fax number and I'll fax instructions to you. It's about a 2-3 hour job (or less, if you have done it before) if nothing is rusted real bad. It's not hard at all.

If you're just replacing the linings (or putting the whole new bands in) all you have to do is just unhook the spring and remove the two pins attached to the two ends of the band at the top. The give the band a pull and it will pull around the brake drum. It's hinged on the bottome side so that's why you can pull it around. New brake linings are available from AGCO for about $15 for each side. It's easy to rivet the new linings onto the old bands. I replaced the linings on my CA about a year ago.
