WD oil pressure

New gauge new gaskets fresh oil. First long drive went around block @ four miles. Gauge states 20lbs when started out and at 10 when up to the 180 to 190 operating temp Is this normal and correct? Manual just shows a gauge that has a normal range. Any information would be great Thanks Jamie

These WD engines measure the oil pressure after the oil has been through all of the bearings. In this sense it is a residual pressure. The original Allis Chalmers gauges only showed "normal" and not a PSI reading. If you use a gauge with numbers you will get low readings which will scare you but the engine has satisfactory pressure. If an original gauge were used it would register within the normal range. My D10 with the same type of system has a PSI gauge and starts at 20 PSI and drops some when it warms up. I have been advised that my oil pressure would be in the normal range if I were using an AC gauge.

Is your new guage like the original guage for a WD? there is a difference in them,they don't have alot of oil pressure and with a numbered guage it won't raise the needle very much,however you can increase the oil pressure on the side of the block with some shimms,hope this helps.

The operator's manual says the needle should point somewhere between the O and the M in Normal with a slight decrease at idle. The repair manual says normal oil pressure is 12 PSI. There are many people on this site who report tractors running for years with the needle barely getting off the peg.

I believe they all drop when worked. I had an old allis "salt" tell me the pressure really is'nt dropping much at all...the gauge is not located in an optimum spot for an accurate reading.

MY WD does the same thing, the engine was rebuilt about 5 years ago and after it reaches normal temp. my oil pressure drops also
