Busted seal....again!

I've got a 1939 AC-B. I installed a Woods L-59 mower on it two months ago. Since then I have had two belt pulley seals go out (what looked like the origianal and and now a brand new one that has only been in for two cuttings). The seat for the seal and the shaft all look in good condition, I can't figure out what's going on. I run the mower in first gear and I'm figuring around 1800-2200 rpm.

Hi,

I don't know your problem, but I've been mowing with a L306 (bigger) mower on my '42 C for the last four years (and countless years before that by earlier owners) with no belt pulley seal problems.

Is the shaft rough? Is the seal getting chewed up? Is the end-play excessive? When I restored my C, the retaining nut on the belt pulley shaft (inside the PTO housing) was loose. Might want to check, I believe there should be no end-play.
