No serial number on rear plate of early WD.

Found and purchased an early (good running) WD. My intentions were to use it for parts for the 45 and WD I use to farm. After carefull cleaning (dremmel tool brush) I still cannot find a serial number stamped in the usual spot. The tractor was repainted some time ago...but there is no evidence of the numbers being ground off. The production date numbers on the rear drive "tubes" read early 1948.I noticed that the serial numbers for WD's start at #7. What about the first 6? Could this have been a magical find? How else might I be able to find out when this baby rolled off the line? Thank You in advance for any help

According to some, the serial #s on the very early WDs were located on the LH brake housing under the inspection cover. Some of the manuals show this location as well as the traditional one. If there, it will be on the right side of the inspection hole and will be visible when the inspection cover is removed.
