Hopefully this works...if not there is a picture in the Gallery section (Thanks Duey!).

Thanks to all those that answered questions (esp. Dick L, who I pestered several times) and sold me parts during the restoration.

I'll probably have this tractor at Baraboo, if you're there and see me, stop by to chat.

What a beauty! I am restoring a 1942 C. Can't quite tell from the picture what kind of rear tires you are using. Are they turf tires?

Yes, turf tires...these are slightly larger than the Ag tires the tractor used to have. I traded tires with a friend that has a D10. I believe the tires I have now were on the D10 when it was sold new to a local high school, they work good for the mowing that I do.

Nice looking C.

Everything I find agrees with Lyle Wacker's statement that there was no model decal on C tractors. The B also had no model decal until the early 50's when the CA came out. Apparently A-C thought the differences between the B and C were enough for folks to be able to tell them apart without resorting to a decal.

My Father bought an Allis 'C' and we have restored it but now we have a question as to where the Letter C is placed on the tractor or hoods? Can anyone enlighten us. We have several WD45's but we don't think the letter decal on the C goes in the same spot as the WD45. Please help. D. Sheets

Hi,

I don't think the letter C decal was ever on the factory tractors. That was a later feature that some decal vendors added to their sets.

I got my decals from Lyle Wacker, no 'C' decal was included in my set, he says they were not used.

Please let me know if you need any help or more info.

Hi All,

Thanks for the kind comments...lots of work but well worth it.

The mower is a Woods L306 (3 blade 72" cut), kind of big for this tractor in tall wet grass, but really works well as a finish mower on my 1 acre lawn. Gets around things better than my previous mower (MTD 11Hp 38").

Baraboo is the "Gathering of the Orange" Show, don't remember the dates exactly but I believe in early-to-mid August.

Thumbs up on your restored "C" Mark.
I live just south east of Forest City on 10 acres. Retired from Winnebago Ind. I was head mechanic for the local AC dealer and farmed and raised feeder pigs in my spare time in the 50s & 60s, run a NAPA machine shop in the 80s. Duey

My C has been converted to distributor/coil (before I got it), so I cannot help much with a mag. I have fooled with them (15-20 years ago) and can say they are confusing.

Post your message in it's own thread and I'm sure you'll get plenty of help.

My advice (for what it's worth) is to check the points very closely to ensure correct gap and make sure there are no shorts in the wires. If there is a condenser, unhook it (temporarily) as it might be shorted.
