I just purchased this AC tractor. They told me it was a WD-45 but who knows. I can't seem to get the serial numbers to match they are:

WD 336044 PA (engine plate on left sie of block)
J-10 U-3019 38 2 (engine block castings on right side)
AM 3635-7 or 9635-7 on left differential

If you can help at all please let me know!!!

Like Duey says, the "Tractor" Ser.# is located on the LH vertical surface of the rear end between the brake spring hole and the brake adjusting bolt/locknut. The engine is definitely WD since it has the WD prefix. WD-45 Engine Ser.#s are prefixed by 45. I have been compiling a list of Eng. vs Tractor serial numbers and from what few numbers I've accumulated thus far, your tractor is most likely a very late '52 or early '53, assuming it is the original engine. Please post your tractor serial number when you find it and I'll add it to my list. Thanks,

Serial Number should be located on back left side of differential below left brake cover. Duey

The wd-45 engine block should be solid. A regular wd will have plate bolted onto the side of the block, right side I think. There may be some wd's that had the later block, but all I've seen had the plate on the side.

The number will be on the back of the tractor and it will look somthing like this WD-186418. That was the number off of my wd-45, It will be hard to see but it is there!

Sounds like you own a WD tractor. The serial number on the side of the block is the primary indicator, unless the motor has been changed out, but very unlikely. But if I remember correctly, there is a serial number that should indicate the year model. Look under serial numbers in this website and you can find the year the tractor was built.

Scott,You must remember that a lot of these old units have been driven hard and put away wet. As the guys said about serial# locationis very true. Somehave had rear end housings replaced and #s were not put back on . The #s you have from the rear are casting or part #s. The engine is easy to identify by the plate or lack of on the right side. The WD engine will have this plate bolted on.It serves no function other than to keep the oil in . The WD45 engine is a solid casting. It has been seen many times that a tractor with a 45 serial has had a WD engine transplant or the opposite can be true. Recently purchased a unit claiming to be a 45, with a WD engine and had been shipped from AC with a diesel engine and the serial # on the rear end had a "D" suffix. I am sure this was indeed shipped with a diesel engine from the factory due to the much larger starter, pull handle and very large battery box, as well as the hood had been chopped thru where the hood mounted instrument panel had been mounted. Would like to have one of those panels! Also AC was building WDs and 45s and 45Diesels at the same time in the same factory. There was a lot of parts being used up to get rid of inventory. Some early 45s had three bolt support flanges to hold the wide fronts on, then at some point shifted to four bolts. Good luck in your journey and enjoy it. Tom
