I have acquired an old gasoline engine Allis-Chalmers Motor Grader which belonged to my Grandfather. I am preparing to restore it and would appreciate any help identifying the model number, so I can start looking for engine, parts, manuals, etc. The serial number from a plate on the right side is 1E-2605. There are also numbers cast into the right side of the engine block: 9-25 and U 3019-28. I can furnish a photo if it would help. Thanks, Steve Slaughter

Steve, your serial number 1E-2605 makes it a
1948 W Patrol. I believe it was based on a WC
tractor with a lengthened or extended front-end
and a grader blade. It should have the two large
hand crank wheels for grader blade control. Total
production was about 3000 units from 1940-50.

Unimog:
Thanks for your help in identifying the grader. I started disassembly today and have found that the engine block is cracked, apparently beyond repair due to freeze damage. I will need to locate either a rebuilt or rebuildable engine. Can you or anyone else suggest a possible source for engines or engine parts? Any recommendations would be a great help. I'm new to Allis-Chalmers and I'm starting this project a little lost. Also, anyone know which Allis-Chalmers tractor models might have an interchangeable engine that would work in a 1948 A/C W-Patrol Road Grader? Thanks, Steve.

Steve, sorry to hear about the crack. The good
news is the engine is very common and you can find
them used from many sources or buy remanufactured
blocks from tractor supply stores. Your engine is
used in the WC and WD. It's a 201 cubic inch.
Good luck with your project.

I am trying to identify an A-C motor grader. It appears to be a DD model Ser#73L05120. Everything works well, however it needs a new blade. Previous owner "burned it down" past the bolt on replacement blade.
Runs great, needs new radiator and paint.
