Hi all,

I have an AC C that starts fine and runs great for about 45 minutes to an hour. It then starts to miss and sputter at any engine speed. Choking the engine causes it to smooth back out for a little while, though with reduced power. Eventually it starts to sputter even when choked. Magneto has been completely over hauled and tested; new plugs & wires also. This C has a Marvel-Schebler carb on it.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

if it runs fine after it cools off, then you probably have a weak mag (coil, condenser). it will test o.k. when taken off and cold, but starts to break down when hot.

I've run into that problem in the past, but I don't think that's it this time. Today, I ran it until it acted up, then took the air filter / breather off and choked the carb by hand. After one good hard choke, she smoothed back out and ran fine for a while. Wouldn't think that would happen if it was the coil. Seems to be getting plenty of fuel to the carb too.

I have a Allis B with the same problem. I have been down this same road. I was unable to correct the problem till last night. I had my tractor running and a neighbor came by, well the thing sounded ruff and he said the valves are tight. I shut her down and with his help( the job was real easy) we set them. I'll tell you that I have never had this tractor running like this before. All kinds of power! It runs like it must have right out of the factory. I would recomend the IT book to get you started. One thing I would say is that you don't have to get as involved with the tear down as they do in the IT book. ED
