D-17 Hydraulic problems

I recently bought an Ac D-17 gas tractor 1962 series 3. The lift was not working well when I got it, so I checked the hydraulic oil level (left side) and found it to be low. Added correct level of oil and it seemed to work fine for a day or so, then I had trouble getting it to come up. After several minutes of trying it finally started working and in just a few minutes stopped again and this time oil ran out of the transmission side fill hole. What could be the answer to my dilema? Marshal, The cylinder that operates the rear lift arms is internal. As Brent said, either the internal hose or the cylinder o-ring seal is leaking. To replace either, the rear lift arm housing has to be removed. Duey

Sounds like hose or O-ring on the lift cylinder is leaking. Both require the lift arm housing being removed to get at them.

I'm not sure I was clear about the problem I have with the D-17 series III hydraulics. The hydraulic oil is transfering from the hydraulic side to the sump of the transmission side and overflowing it's fill opening. Is there a seal between the two sumps that could allow this to happen if it failed? The hydraulic side was at the correct level before this. but is low now while the transmission sump is overunning.
Thanks again for your help. I'm not familier with the AC hydraulics. Marshall

The hydraulic lift cylinder is located inside the rear of the tractor behind the differential and transmission so any hyd. oil that leaks from the hose or cylinder is pumped into the trans oil and makes it overflow. Hope this helps.
