How big a hole would someone have to dig to bury my tractor so no one would have to go through what I have been going through?
This tractor ran good the other night. I got to cultivate with it and got all done and put it in the barn. Two days went by and I couldn't get the darn tractor running to save my life. I had a sorry sight with the 3020 JD pulling the little allis around so every one could have a good hoot. I'm fed up with this not running condition! I need help.
I had the carb partly rebuilt with the kit (the kit did'nt contain the jets), have replaced points and such, cleaned gas and tank, replaced sparks and wires, also best I could set timing (the fellow I got it from had the timming all off from the crank back. I reset it with the ac repair book. I don't have timing light, so I can't set as sure as I would like).
What are your sugestions as to what I should do? I would like to know if there is no hope would any one know how big I should get the hole ready for. HELP ED

Kens right, its not impossible, just remember
spark + fuel + air = run

Ed! I have had my little B for about 7 years now. It really runs great, but I have had my share of problems with it. It is my fault mostly because I leave it out side all winter and then try to start it. Always it is the magneto or the fuel. An old Allis chalmers tractor mechanic showed me how to make a test device for my mag by having 4 plugs attached to a metal strip with a device to turn the mag over. Put it in the vice and turn over. Looks so pretty when it is firing. It never is when I put it in there, or I would not be taking it off the tractor. Once you have figured it has spark, look at the fuel. It will half run on water & fuel, I know, becuse every year I go through the same routine. If you have rebuilt the carb, it should at least start. Spray some starting fluid in the breather, if it is a fuel problem, it will fire right up. If the tractor was running good at one time for you, it is probably in time. When I first got my tractor , I found this old mechanic and he told me over the phone to hand crank the motor over till the rotor was pointing to #1 piston ( 11:00 position ). You have to take the top cap off to see the rotor. I have taken the mag off every year this way and just make sure you put it back on with the rotor pointing to the 11:00 position. I would almost bet the mag is the problem. I rebuilt my carb with a minor kit like you did, and it runs great. My Ford *n has almost the same carb- Marvel Schriber, and I have had it off at least 20 times and I still can not get the tractor to run right. I finally gave up and ordered a new carb. I am still going to try and get the old one working at my own sweet time. If your tractor is running, but rough, vacum leaks around the carb and manifold are prime suspects. Check the mag first. There still elec shops that work on mags also. good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the help. I know there is spark and I have felt it! I'm not sure but I have had the mag off and bench tested at the local shop. They showed me that it was firing right. I have a problem when the tractor gets up to temp in that it will run real rough. I think from those who I've talked to the coil may be bad when it's hot. Am I barking up the wrong tree? I would like to get the thing running soon as I need to do more cultivating. Again thanks for the help. ED

Ed, Coil and condensor will act the same way when hot and shorting out. I would replace both. Duey
