WD 12 Volt conversion

If you convert over to 12 volt from 6 volt do you have to change the coil? i have a distributor instead of a mag. The reason i ask is my WD was converted over when i got it and the coil gets pretty warm. Thanks in advance for any help you may be.

You need to have a 12 volt coil and condenser. I use a 12 volt coil with an internal resister and 12 volt condenser with the same dimensions as the original 6 volt condenser. If you use a coil with the internal resister do not also use an external resister.

Dave, You are right. The external resister would only be used on the origional 6 volt coil to lower the 12 volts going into the 6 volt coil. Duey

Kemper, There should be a resister between the switch and the coil. I get them from old Ford or Chrysler products. Usually found on the firewall. Or your local auto supply will have them. You should check the points, they may be in sad shape. Myself, I would replace points and condensor when you install the resister. Duey
