As far as the gas goes, just check everything up to the carb. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and turn on the gas bowl. Good flow? If yes, then most likely carb or leaky intake manifold. If no, work back to the tank. Ream line out with low "E" guitar string or blow with compressed air. Remove sediment bowl, clean it and drain gas from tank looking for rust chunks or other trash. Poke around tank outlet to clear it out. With the mag, do the easy stuff first. Use fine emery cloth or point file to clean points, replace condensor, clean rotor and check cap for cracks or moisture. Maybe replace brushes & springs in cap. Reassemble EXACTLY the way it was and hold plug wire to good ground (clean metal or even in your hand) and crank engine to check for spark. Good thick spark to metal or a "wake up call" to your hand and you're in business. If not, you may have to remove mag and swap coils or reset the timing. Not a whole lot more to do there. If you remove the mag, try to mark the top tooth so you get it back in roughly the same spot in case the timing was correct. Be sure wires go to 1-2-4-3 (1 closest to radiator) and clockwise on cap from top left. May be a good time to change plug wires and boots. Use solid core wires, not the resistor wires for cars. You may want to try to pull-start your tractor first to rule out bad battery or dirty/loose connections in starter circuit. I have gotten mag pats from 1-800-MAGNETO. Great service and inexpensive. Have all #s off your mag ready if you call. Sometimes the thing that was wrong will be the last thing you check, but you'll have it running again. Good luck, RC
