take the long steering rod off from gear box to the front axle. see if the steering wheel and gear box turn freely without wheels. jack up th efront end and see if each wheel turns freely side to side. this will tell you where the problem is at.

WD 45's are generally very hard to steer if they have a wide front end.

Zeke, Here are a few things to look for. Make sure the steering box is full of oil. If it is really low or out of oil, this could cause hard steering. Make sure all hub bearings, inner and outer,are in good shape and do not have flat spots on them or a roughness to them. Make sure that the tie rod ends are tight and not loose. Also make sure that they are not frozen up. Check to make sure the steering plate under the front of the tractor is tight and not sloppy loose. Low air pressure in the front tires will also cause stiff steering.Plus, if you have power steering, make sure it is full of fluid. The reason for the long paragraph is that everything I mentioned here has happened to me! Hope you find your problem. Thanks, Rick

Someone must have put grease in the gears but if you take the weight off of the front, and take the top bearing out or as far as you want to go, and then clean the grease out and replace with 80W-90 gear lube and work that in with no weight on the wheels and it will get easier.
