Well, I've tried and tried to get this thing to run smoothly and can't. I've posted here several times now with the problem being that my B sputters and coughs when I go up the slightest incline or put a load on it. It will run on flat ground all day long.

I've done several things to it with input from you folks (thanks). But, I'm now back to suspecting the carb as the problem. I have not rebuilt the carb yet, but have cleaned it. I have adjusted it til I"m blue in the face. The carb is a MS. How can I tell what model MS carb it is? What is the proper MS model carb for a 52' B? Can someone explain to me how to adjust the carb properly? I think it runs too rich, no matter how I adjust it. But then again, maybe I'm just not doing it right.
Anyway, I'm back to square one I think.

Thanks for the input, Matt

Will a Zenith carb fit without any modification to my choke and throttle cables? Are they readily available thru the used market?

Thanks for your help - Matt

Had a similar problem on my 1948 B, bought new by my Dad. This tractor came new with a MS carb. After about 10 years it started running lean, wouldn't run right without the choke part way out. Tried cleaning and every other stunt I could think of with that carb. NO LUCK! Finally got a Zenith with an adjustment on the high speed mixture. End of problem, the Zenith is still on it 42 years later and never had anymore problems. Just my experience. Good luck, Paul

Everyone has an opinion and mine is, take the ms set it on the shelf and get a zenith carb from someone in the classifieds and let the ms get sold at your estate auction someday... mine was on a CA and no amount of love, adjustment, or new parts would make it run right. So I took the zenith from my other CA and all the balking and troubles went away, I'm now waiting for another zenith to arrive in the mail. Hope you get it worked out whichever way you go mike
