With a dead battery cannot start it by hand cranking, but pull it 5 feet and it fires right off. Yes, the battery has now been replaced.

Check the impluse. If the pawls are not catching it will not load the impluse spring and spin the armature to produce the electric curent to cause the needed spark. When pulling the tractor the armature will be spinning and give you all the curent needed

Ron,
My B does pretty much the same thing. The spark appears to be a bit on the weak side, I may have to have the mag redone (even though the PO told me it was just rebuilt when I bought it). You might try cleaning the points to be sure they aren't oxidized causing weak spark. A hand cranker needs very good spark to start easily.
Of course, all this is dependent on your C having a mag and not a distributor. The distributor would need a good battery to work properly.

My tractor sounds like it is identical to yours. All I have to do is give it a tug with my 4-wheeler and it starts. I would rebuild the mag and get a bigger battery. it helps if you time the tractor with a timing light too! Good Luck!Tom Miller
