WD front end loader

I have a AC add on front end loader on my WD. It has the small diameter main cylinders (single acting) but has a belt driven hydraulic pump powering the unit. The loader can only lift a couple hundred pounds at best before the belt slips. And yes it is a new belt and it is as tight as can be. I am assuming the pump is of the low pressure high volume variety and not correct for this application. Any suggestions on wich way to go: finding a high pressure pump or replacing the rams. The 3-point hydraulics do work and I use the 3-point for brush cutting and snow removal.

the hydraulic pump takes a lot of horse power. the belt slips when it cannot hanlde the power. you could put on sprockets and use a small chain if you want to not slip. The other method would be to use the present rear pump and valve that you use on the three point. It should be possible to buy a small selector vavle, which is a piston with two outputs and a handle. When you push it in it send the oil to your three point. When you pull the selector valve out it sends oil to your valve that controls the bucket. The only problem with this is you can not run the three point and bucket at the same time. you raise your chopper, then pull the selector valve which "locks " the three point up and sends the oil to the bucket. We can get you more details if you want to try this.

Send me the details please. I'd much rather be able
to use the 3 point and bucket at the same time (especially come winter and snow removal time) but if the bucket can't lift much it's not much use anyway.

I sent you a simple drawing of how to plumb up a selector valve to your system. This method relys on your rear pump only for all the hydraulic oil. Your present pump driven by the belt would not be needed. You could also try remounting the belt pump in front of the tractor and shaft drive it from the crank shaft pulley. Many guys do this and may have a lead on the coupler needed to do it. The pump may be the right size and pressure, only problem is the belt cant take the horse power. One quick check would be to try to raise the boom empty with the tractor at idle and at full speed. Does it raise up at the right speed or is it very-very quick. If it raises too quick the pump is too big. If it raises up about right speed, then the belt cannot take the HP as we have discussed.
