After I got the tractor running I noticed some metallic dust at the brush end of the generator. I took a better look at things on Sunday and found that the bearing was failing on the generator. I had purchased a used alternator last winter in preparation for an alternator conversion/power steering installation project but was waiting for some other items to do first. I had even taken the alternator in to an auto parts store to have it tested to see if it was ok on Saturday morning and it checked ok. Not only that but two weeks past I had ordered a alternator wiring kit with the voltmeter from Genessee. Plus several months ago I had been talking to Genessee and they mentioned that they had alternator mounting brackets so I bought one.
The rest of the story is that I spent most of the day Sunday making part of an alternator bracket to weld onto a bracket I had/to mount an alternator to that I had/and had just had checked for serviceability/so that I could add the wires I had just gotten/to the alternator that I just happen to have on hand. I did get everything done and checked out and the tools put back by the end of the day. Either I am better than I thought about having things ready to go or there was some devine intervention at work.
