My pull type finish mower took it's last breath on Saturday, and replacing it appears to be very expensive. I have finally reached the point where I am strongly considering installing a three point conversion kit on my Allis Chalmers WD. Does anyone have any experience with these kits? Any recommendations on which one to buy? Are they difficuly to install? Will they handle most impliments?

I just installed a C&D hitch on my WD last week. The main support bolts to the drawbar so draft control will still work. It was pretty easy to install but not sure if it is the best one out there for this tractor or what I'll be using it for, however it was the least expensive.

Generally, if the hitch mounts to the drawbar, then the draft control will work but you won't have anti-sway control and if the hitch mounts to the differential housing, then it will be rigid with no draft control. My 2 cents.

Don, I just put a Saginaw Model on my WD last month. So far so good. It is a very heavy unit that bolts right on to the differential and includes the top link and top link clevis. It has the lower swivels for Cat 1 and Cat 2 impliment and has adjustible antisway bars. Cost $425 plus shipping. Weighs about 250 lbs. Bad thing is that it doesn't mount to the drawbar so the draft control won't apply.

Saginaw's website is:

This will give you a good picture of this heavy duty unit.

My dad installed one on his 1962 D-17 without a problem. The only major bolt on part was removing the seat to install the middle stabilizer bar for the 3-point system. Aside from that it was just a matter of sliding in the 3-point arms in place of the tow bar. I don't recall brand or price as it's been over 10 years.
