Help. Don't know the exact year, somewhere between 49-52 Allis. We have had the magneto redone but still have no spark. It will turn over but will not start. Carb is getting gas.

A possibility: There is a tiny insulator washer/collar that must be in place on small bolt that goes through mag housing and attaches shut off wire to mag. If that insulator is missing, the mag will provide the gound as if you were shutting tractor off. My mag has a manual contact switch on this same bolt in case one needs to shut tractor off from up front. You could check this with a simple tester that has a battery in it. Touch the small bolt where ground wire attaches with one of the tester's wires and touch the mag housing with the other wire from the tester. This test should NOT produce any reading. The point is: the grounding bolt, of which I speak, should not touch the mag housing through which it passes, in any way. No spark can be generated. Whoever rebuilt mag should have taken care of this.

Check to see that the magneto is well grounded to the engine. Paint or grease can cause the magneto to be insulated, making an open circuit and no spark.
