Hydraulics wont lift any weight

I have an AC model C and recently put on a C&D 3-point hitch and a Howse grader blade with a shipping weight of 265#. The hydraulics wont lift the grader. I know the hydraulics will pump fluid because I ran it with the hose disconnected to clean out the old fluid when I changed it out recently. How much weight should this tractor be able to lift? I don't feel that 265# is too much, any insights on how to get this to work?
Thanks
Doug

I have a Allis Chalmers Tractor (series 160)

the hydralics one day would not work. A friend had fixed it to were it would raise up and down. The delima is that it will not lift what it use to lift. It would lift the front wheels off the ground, the hydralics was so strong. When a implement is attached to the 3-point hitch now, the piece of equipment sets there and jumps up and down and range of 3/4". I have tried adjusting the jumping out of it with the flow control valves under the seat, but you can adjust so far. Also the hydralics system after running for a while, they will not lift the equipment you have attached to the 3-point hitch, (bush hog, 3-bottom breaking plow, box blade). Please give me some ideas on what might be the problem.

You are probably losing pressure, or the cylinder is not a large enough diameter. a 1" bore cylinder/piston will give 780 pounds of lift at 1000 psi. Force=pressure times area also check the linkage for binding

Doug,

I have a Worksaver 3-pt hitch on my 1950 Model B. It will lift my Landpride 5 foot finish mower at about 525#, but the front does get a little light. Make sure that you have the correct weight fluid in the transmission/hydraulics. I can use 30 weight Non-detergent here in warm NC, but it may be too heavy in other parts of the country. I can't find the recommended 20 weight anymore.

Good Luck.

I have found 20wt oil at a commercial filter and hose place called Williams Oil Filter Service. They have it in big jugs.

I would check the pressure with a gauge and make sure you have it (3000 psi?). You should be able to lift several hundred pounds. some will almost lift the front wheels off the ground. Also is the hydraulic cylinder designed for the C&D. The standard AC little cylinder which is about 3/4 inch diameter bore is way to small for a blade.

The cylinder I am using came with the C&D hitch. I will find out how to check the pressure.

As to the reply about the fluid weight: I bought Hy/trans fluid from NAPA, didn't pay attention too much to the weight...it was the only stuff they had available. I guess I better go see what I got!!!!

Seems to me that if the pressure is low I will need to do a rebuild. Are parts availible and is there anything tricky about rebuilding the hydraulic pump?
Thanks

you can get a cheep 5000 pound pressure gauge at you local farm store. take the hose off the cylinder and screw it onto the gauge. it will now be dead headed. just bump the lvever untill the pump valve go over relief pressure and read how high of pressure you get. if low, several guys here can give a overhaul advice. If you got hydro-trans fluid at local farm store, it is normally 20wt. that is o.k.
