Cant read trans serial number-any way to tell by engine serial number

I have a D-15 and the I can only read two of the numbers for the serial number on the bell housing. Is there a way to tell what year my tractor is by the engine serial number? The number is 160-3231-R

What series is it? The 1960-1962 models were 4 digit numbers 1001-8169. The 1963-1968 models used 5 digit numbers 13001-25419. I couldn't find anything in Norm Swinfords book concerning engine serial numbers and year installed. If can determine if your numbers are the first 2 or last 2 of sequence we could probably figure it out.

Hello, From what picturs I have found it is a series 2. I got a magnafining glass and it looks like 1?? then cant read second number, then 286 or296.

If its a D15 and the serial number is 11286 it was bouilt in 1962, if the serial number is 19286 it is more like a 1965. Thats both ends of the scale if it starts with 1.
