OK....I've had the cylinder soaking in Kroil for about 4 weeks. Then tried alcohol. now back to Kroil. No give. So I'm getting a 6" length of pipe 4" OD. I intend to drive the piston down without taking the rods loose. How rough can I get???? Can I wreck the piston? The cylinders show no wear so apparently has had new sleves not long ago. Thanks.

i was talking to an old timer today about this on my own tractor.he told me to try putting boiling water in the water jacket to expand sleaves.he also told me [believe this or not ]if you have not put oil in cylenders yet,urinate in them. [not a type o ]that will break them loose in 20-30 mins. [ dont know if i am that desperate yet] if you try that let me know if it works.knowing him i bet it will. good luck

it may not be the piston that is stuck , it could be the piston pin is froze up try disconnecting the rod and see if you canpush it away from the crank. had that problem on a d14 just a short time ago.

Try Coke (Coca-Cola). Several folks on the ATIS Antique Tractor email list swear by it. There is some type of very mild acid in it that eats rust. Do not beat the piston downwards without disconnecting the rod from the crank! That's going to cost you big bucks to fix! If all else fails, remove the crank and use a hydraulic jack and chains to put pressure upwards on the piston/sleeve and push both out the top.

Saw an article on one of the sites the other day that said to pour boiling water in the piston, supposedly the heat will expand the block / sleeve and free the piston.

I wonder if you were able to get the piston and liner out as a unit if you could heat the whole thing up in an oven to maybe 3 or 400 degrees, then put a frozen chunk of ice on the piston top and make it contract enough to move it. Freezing something cylinder shaped in a can or plastic cup so it would fit down in the cylinder maybe with some sort of insulation to keep it from cooling the side of the liner. Just a thought.

You might as well figure on driving the sleeve out the top with the piston. When a engine is in as good of shape at this on must be it is Harder to remove the stuck piston than if the engine was in so horrible shape it would barely run.

I once moved a piston in an IH pickup that was stuck real good make a plate to fit over the top of the piston with your 4in. pipe on the piston put in either 2 or 4 of the head bolts through the plate tighten the bolts and push it down it will move and you don't have to disconnect the rod if the other pistons arn't stuck
