Hand clutch

I posted about grinding noise. I have ordered the manuals but while i am waiting , is the hand lever by the brake peddles, the hand clutch ?? the one on this wd45 just falls both directions. could this be a possible reason for grinding noise. I cant get the tractor out right now and drive it I have a seal ordered and hope to have it in soon. this noise problem is really a low grinding sound . thanks again ... mike

Try pulling it backward hard and see if it locks in. My WD hand clutch is a little sloppy and needs some persuasion sometimes. Sometimes moving the tractor forward or in reverse a little during the process helps. Good luck and let us know. RC

Mike the hand clutch is on the right side by the brake pedals. when the lever is moved in either direction you should hear a loud click or popping noise coming from the hand clutch. if the lever moves freeleay in both directions the clutch plates could be shot or just need to be re adjusted. also there is a brass throw out type bearing in the hand clutch housing that some times breaks or wears out{expensive piece of brass] the hand clutch runs in oil make sure that it is keep up to the proper level

Make sure the lever is hooked up to the lever coming out of the side of the clutch housing, there is an 8 or 10" piece of linkage between the two. If the tractor goes, this clutch is engaged, pushing the lever forward should disengage it if everything is hooked up and working.
