I am in the process of buying an AC G. The person I am buying it from could not get it started. They told me to take it home and try to get it started and check everything out on it. Well, I found the wiring problem and got it started. But now the clutch appears to be out. I can not shift it into gear without grinding it and forcing it (it will go drive forward and backward). The guy said he ran it three weeks ago? I have tried rocking the tractor (off and in gear). I also adjusted the nut on the clutch linkage, but nothing has worked. Now my question is what else to try and if the clutch is gone, what is the cost , and are parts available. Could there be gear damage. The engine runs good, original wires, looks like it has not be run too hard. Any advice would be helpful.

This isn't the answer to all your mechanical questions but a story from a guy that remembers how Dad fixed this problem in the spring every couple of year. What has happened is the clutch is rusted and won't disengage, "Dad's fixes" cultivate with your foot on the clutch and it may let go or drive it into a tree with your foot on the clutch and the shock from the abrupt stop may break it free. Not really high tec but neither was Dad.
