standing to the rear of the tractor, on the rear end housing between the brake spring hole and the brake adjusting bolt there is a flat spot. scrape or sand to bare metal there should be a number there that is the serial #

I just bought an AC and am brand new to antique tractors. I believe it's a D14, the previous owner wasn't sure. To verify, I tried to find a serial number. I noticed all of the casting have raised casting numbers. However, I did find a stamped number on the left side of the engine near the air intake. It is 149-6988M. The website serial number check for 1959, D14's is 14900. Seem's like this is it. Does this sound right? and is the left side of the engine block a typical spot for a serial number?

The serial number you found on the engine is the engine sn# . A D-14 has a 149 cu in engine. The tractor serial number is on the clutch housing. D-14's were made from 1957 to 1960.

the D series tractors had the seerial number stamped on teh bell housing where it bolts to the engine. The number should be stamped and start with D10, D12,D14 etc. If it is older B or C it will be stamped by the transmission shift lever and starte with a B or C
