My wife and I have been left a 1940 AC B that belonged to her granfather and then her dad.
Not knowing a lot about tractors, I have done a lot of reading on this site and have learned a lot from it.
I have had a person look at this machine and he says that the magneto is no good.
He says that he can change it over to a distributor and that would be the best way to go.
My two questions are: Is this the best alternative? Where could I get a new magneto?
I know this site is mostly southern US and I am from Ontario Canada.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have quite a few magnetos. I am planning to convert my machine to a distributor this summer (fall) because I can never get it to stay in time after shutting it down.

One thing to remember if your not going to use it a lot and you switch to a distributor you will need a good battery to run it. With a magneto a battery is not needed to run the tractor. Any I buy that has a distributor I switch back to a magneto.

I think it is good advise to convert to distributor. However, if you wish to stay with
a mag. I have one just returned from professional
rebuild. It looks like new and should perform as
new. I have about $100 invested and you can have
it for that plus shipping. (You need some mechanical aptitude or mechanical help to time
and install the magneto.) Hope this helps. Charles
