I have a 226 cube power unit off of a model 100 all crop combine. I would like to rebuild it soon and put it in an old wd or wd45 tractor, as soon as I find one in my price range. My question is what do I have to get parts for to rebuild the engine, none of the non oem parts suppliers list the combine application for parts. Should I get parts for a wd45 or for a d17 tractor. I realize that checking the casting numbers is the best way to get what i need, but as a general rule which tractor is closer, if either.

I would say it depends on what you want to do with the tractor when your done. If your building a puller or farmer? Don't know where you are but I do have a wd for sale minus the motor.

I'd use parts for a WD45. I haven't worked on a power unit, but I think all the parts were the same other than a few more sensors and whatnot. Might want to check eBay, sometimes books for those things come up.

Thanks for the info guys. I am in central PA north of Harrisburg about 60 miles. At the moment though I can't afford to buy one but thanks for your help. I am working on a JD A and a Cub Cadet 73 at the moment and don't have the resources to get into another tractor at the moment. Oh by the way I want to restore a tractor with this engine, hoping it will be cheaper than buying a complete tractor. What would a tractor minus the engine be worth if all other components were in good shape.

What is this you are trying to restore. We have a 1967 cub cadet lawnmower, with a Kholer 7 horse engine. My husband uses it all the time, but are now looking for a new head. We just replaced it once, but it blew the spark plug and we were glancing at internet to see if we could find a used one. The new one was only $64., but just hate to go buy another new one, thought maybe someine had a discarded machine and we could find a used head
