TDC timeing mark on A/C B 1950

On my 1950 Model B, there are two marks on the flywheel. Mine has a distributor, but I think that the static timing is the same.

Remove the #1 plug, put your finger in the plug hole (I can't get my thumb over the hole.), and have someone turn the motor with the hand crank or bump the motor with the starter until you feel air being forced past your finger.

Continue turning the motor until you see the first mark. Mine is stamped "Fire." This is where the motor should fire when the magneto is fully advanced. You can check this with a timing light with the engine running at 900 rpm or faster.

Continue turning the motor until the next line appears. Mine is stamped "Dead Center." This is where the magneto should be statically timed.

Where in NC do you live. I live in Autryville, just East of Fayetteville, off NC 24.

I pass through Hamlet a couple of time a year on my travels. Maybe I can stop by and see your A-C.

I would install the Mag. with the flywheel set on the "Dead Center."

Since mine is a distributor, I haven't had any experience with a mag, but as I recall the manual saying you set the timing mark at Dead Center, install the mag with the rotor pointed to the #1 post on the cap, loosen the bolts holding the mag, advance the mag about 30 degree and slowly retard the mag until the mag trips, then tighten the bolts that hold the mag.

This may not be exactly right since I am at work and don't have my manual.
