Please help!
I started with a stuck engine. Pulled head and unstuck motor. I had the head overhauled with new parts. I've replaced distributor cap, Points and condensor, spark plugs wires and plugs. I've tested the timing and firing and both are good. It is getting plenty of gas. What could be wrong?

Jim, My understanding is if we have fuel and fire all that is left is getting it to happen at the right time. I put a balloon on an adapter screw it in the #1 plug hole and turn engine over until the baloon starts to fill.( I normally work alone.) Start looking in the flywheel view hole for the word FIRE. When FIRE is in the middle of the view hole, take the distributer cap off.The rotor should be pointing toward the #1 spark plug with the points starting to open. This will be close enough to get it started. After you get it started turn distributor while running to fine tune. Recheck carb settings etc. Maybe time with a light.(kinda new at giving this type info, hope I didn't leave anything out.) Has the crankshaft or the cam been out? Those timing marks are in the manual. Good luck!

Dale, One of the items, you ask me to look for was the smell of fuel on the spark plugs. When I check the spark plugs there is a smell of fuel and they are wet. But the plugs are firing because I have checked the plugs for firing. The timing is correct. Any more thoughts?

if the plugs are wet and you know they are firing (double check this twice) then your timing is not right. Even then there should be enough gas left over that it pops or backfires when cranked? I would remove the valve cover and spark plug. make sure the piston comes up on TDC and check marks on the crank. Even with this, I still believe lack of spark is a good bet.

Had same problem. Try champion J-11 spark plugs, make sure wires are pushed all the way down on both ends. First try full choke and third notch on throdle. If it dosent pop, try no choke, third notch and take off the air cleaner oil cup. This will give you unrestricted air flow. Keep cranking, when you want to give up, crank some more. Hopefully you will get her going. I do not know if spraying starter fluid in would be a good idea. From the info you give it sounds like flooding. Rebuilding carborater and checking the float are some other places I would check. Best of luck. There is no sweeter sound than a old allis coming back to life!

Thanks Bill! I will give this a try with the J11 Spark plugs.

Jim, The first AC-C I re-did I would do one part at a time.(clean,fix,paint,etc.)When through it would not start. Went to hunting and found no spark.(new points, plugs, condenser, etc.)Could not figure out why no spark. With help from this board I found the reason. I had painted the base of the distributor.(no ground,no spark). Did you set the timing on the compression stroke? Is there fuel smell on the plugs? Is the firing order set 1243? Does it pop at all? Could the kill switch be bad or wired wrong? Just a couple of ideas! Good luck.

I owuld start over and check again. If you have gas and spark and the timing is close, it has to start. Pull a plug and lay it on the block (with the wire connected. Crank and see if it has a spark thru the plug. This checks the entire electrical system (plugs, points, condneser, and cap).
