I must confess that I know nothing about Allis Chalmers tractors. I own a 9N and a Ford 900. My question is: What is the horsepower of a 54 Allis Chalmers? I seen one today in the paper with a loader for $2500.00 They said that it was in excellent condition. Would this be a fair price? It is not that I am partial to Fords. It just happens to be my first two tractors that I bought. I like all old tractors. Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff, I agree with Orangman. If that tractor is a WD45 and is in good condition, you will find it a real buy. I have a 9N also and I owned an 8N about 5 years ago. The only reason I have the 9N is I stole it. Beside the WD45's I have owned and the one I now have, the 9N is just a toy. The AC's will outwork, out run and start anytime. I once had a 45 that I ran & ran, winter and summer in Mich. I could go out in 10 degree weather and pull the crank twice and it would start. Orangman is right though, if you plow snow with a loader, you will find chains a big help

An Allis built in 1954 could be one of several models such as a C,B or WD45. My guess is a WD45 which was rated at 45 hp more or less. If it is in good shape rubber wise, sheet metal etc. and if the loader is good it is worth $2,500. If it is a wide front it's a real deal. If it has power steering (add on) and a fully hydrualic loader (auxillary pump) it is a steal. You will never run out of power with this tractor. Traction, but never power. A good set of chains is almost a necessity with a loader in snow.

I should have said 54 Allis models were the B, CA, and WD45 as the CA replaced the C in l950..
