I have an AC D17 series IV with an AC 445 loader. I've replaced several worn hydraulic lines and topped off the hydraulic fluid but the loader lacks power when trying to lift even a small amount of dirt. It seems to lack more lifting ability the warmer it gets. Sometimes the loader goes up quick/slow/quick when it's cool. The 3pt. lifts up quickly and lifted up a heavy dump trailer a few weeks ago. I bought manuals and have searched this forum but don't know what a solution could be. Do I need a new pump? Two of the cylinders on the tractor/loader leak slightly but not bad.

Thank you. I have had a WC for a while and am new to hydraulics.

Byron, The internal lift cylinder for the rear lift arms is probably the problem. Either the o-ring seal inside the cylinder is bad or the cylinder hose is leaking (which would cause the hydralic fluid level to go down and the differential fluid level to go up). But first check the control linkage adjustments. Duey

Duey, Thank you for your help. I started up cold on Sunday and had maybe six sheets of plywood on the loader and it could barely lift them up and fairly high throttle. The three point seems to have lots of lifting power and even bent my clevice when I lifted a dumpster. From what you've said it seems that it's the lift arms for the loader and not the pump. (The loader dumps extremely slow and has low power too.) Does that seem right. I really appreciate it. We're going out to Wisconsin to see family this weekend. Their along the Mississippi north of Dubuque. Do you have much rain out their? We are getting soaked in Ohio. Byron

Thank you everyone for the help. A couple of days ago I got a flat tire and was able to lift the tractor up with the loader but it gradually came down as I was taking off/putting on the tire and I kept having to raise it.

From your comments, does this sound like an internal leak and is it most likely the rams or possibly in the pump or other area I don't know about?

Thank you. This is in an incredible web site.

You may need to rebuild the loader hydraulic cylinders.

about 3000psi +/- on the early D17s, IV may be 2000psi . .

You are likely losing pressure in the system. You need to put a pressure gauge after the pump and see what pressures you get. You may only have to adjust the relief valve. Or you could have an internal leak. I am not familiar with tractor hydraulics but I would think that you should get 800 psi or better. Remember that more pressure gives you lifting capacity and more flow gives you speed.

800 lbs pressure sounds like a IH man on the wrong board.
