Whats the cure for a wd-45 sloppy shifter that jams transmission in gear and will not let you shift. any info would be great.

Often the problem is a combination of wear on the shift lever ball & groove,the pins & housing,the rail pockets & the housing socket. We sell rebuilt ones for $225 exchange if yours has no broken parts. S>L>I

A quick fix is to pull the stick out of the tower, use a long screwdrive and set the forks back to "N" and re-install the stick.

A cure is to weld up the worn areas on both the stick and the forks.

Great question-have the same problem with my WD. It was suggested that I swap a decent one with a bone yard to get up and running,but,they can be built up (rebuilt) if you have the time. I was also told by an "old salt" AC rebuilder that I should give this my utmost attention because I run a serious risk of getting the trans. stuck in two gears. The local bone yard wants an arm and a leg (even with a swap) and I have the time to rebuild it. Im getting ready to rip into it tonight. Any specs on the forks...or will a visual be good enough? Any suggestions about building up the shifter-or linkages? Any help will be appreciated? ("One man gathers what another man spills"-stephen hunter).

Steve, The groove on the ball pivot part of the lever also wears. An oversize pivot pin used to be available from AC. This required the groove to be recut wider by a machine shop. On my WD I had the machine shop put a new grove on the opposit side too and installed two pins. There is a pin hole on the opposite side so the shift could be reversed to operate a rear mounted cotton picker.
This makes a nice solid shifter when you get the forks and tip of the lever rebuilt. Duey

When we rebuilt the shifter on my brother's WC we made the oversize pin/key and milled the shifter larger to fit, then installed a grease fitting in this area, it doesn't get much lube from the oil in the transmission. Make sure you always have a good boot, not an old cracked one, on the shift lever, keeps the water out.

could anyone tell me any size specifications on the tip of the shifter for the WD-45. I have had my shifter ball and pin machined but the tip is still too small because it slips between the shift rails which leaves the transmission in gear (especially 2nd) and the shift lever tip slips into the neutral position. Thanks much
