A friend just asked me today if i knew how to take apart the Ipto clutch on a CA. I havnt seen the tractor but i understand its in the axle housing and is an aftermarket add on. I will try to get a look at the tractor in the next few days but in the meantime any information would be appreciated i think he said the name of the clutch started with an L

The CA didn't have an aftermarket clutch, it was a factory option on early models and standard in later models. .

It is a Lambert dry disc clutch, single plate. It is inside the right axle housing. .it allows the PTO to keep turning independent of the axles. .when the clutch lever is thrown forward. . if it is frozen, as many are, look forward to a long fight.

thanks for the reply that sounds like the critter. i havnt had time to go look at it but from what i understand his mechanic cant figure out how it is supposed to come apart and i do think its rusted up.

Some problems getting to it but not to much trouble when you get there.Mine had been welded together. I assume to keep it from slipping. Be prepared to replace the seals when coming back up. Check springs,plates and disc.Clean housing real good (careful, keep it wet, could be some hazarous materials present left from brake bands and disc).Might as well replace the brake bands while doing it if needed. Did find conficting adjusting info from manual and I&T manual. Do remember the closer was the proper adjustment. Mine works good now. Parts were high, got them from AC dealer.If you don't replace seals it will become oily and again slip. Good luck!
