I just purchased a wd but the pto is missing,will one off an older wc fit and is there a cap or something that goes on the stub shaft when the pto is off to keep the seal in and from leaking? Thanks

The guy I bought my WD from said that the rear pto assembly was from a WC. It doesn't look like the pto assembly in my WD owner's manual. I drilled holes in the foot step and mounted the carrier bearing to it.

The rear PTO on my brother's WC looks like it would fit my WD, probably would as you point out. I think the belt pullys are the same too.

If you are talking about the side belt pully PTO a plug tht works great is a 3" pvc pipe plug with an O ring on it. I think the ones ment for closing off a tee cleanout. My brother needed one and just happened to have such a plug around and it pops in and has worked perfectly. I think that WC and WD belt pully PTOs are the same but I am not positive.

I assume you mean the power take-off gear box mounted under the trans.,I have never interchanged them ,but have had both off and they look identical to me the power shaft that runs from the gear-box to the rear is mounted different tho. you would have to have the wd shaft or retro fit the wc have fun also, the belt pulley is the same,.

Now that I think about it, the AC parts book for WD/WD45s says thereis a difference in the material in the PTO gear box. The AC WD/WD45 repair manual says "The PTO housing was changed from cast iron to malleable iron. Dio not use the cast iron housing on the WD Tractor. Use balance of 223708 (cast iron) for WC & WF Tractors.
