I have the opportunity to purchase one of 2 G tractors. Both are 1948's. One is fully restored with cultivator, sickle mower and plow. The other needs some work engine-wise and cosmetically, but has belly mower, cultivator and plow. I think these are interesting tractors and would like to own one, but I really don't want to get shorn in the process of negotiating a price. Any help would be appreciated.

To buy a G fully restored with implements in the mid-Atlantic would cost $3500-5500. The fixer-upper G is harder to estimate but, if it runs, I would say $2800-3000 with implements. Rims, tires, and engine parts are generally available except for carburetors. The engine is a Continental, same one as in a Massey-Harris Pony. Gas tanks are often rusty and leaky; used ones are available. Sheet metal and factory drawbars are pretty well impossible to get. They are fun little tractors, not powerful but good for garden and truck farm work. Very popular with organic farmers in the northeast.

G's are kind of expensive now - a lot of them go for around $3000 in working condition, without any implements (but with hydraulics and creeper gear).
