D-14 Splitting the housing

I need to replace a bearing forward of the power director clutch assy. I have removed the bolts holding the housing together behind the power director and started splitting the housing. It is about 1" apart and bound up. Before I apply any pressure to the housings, I'm curious to know if there is another release or lock that would keep it from coming apart. It may be the shaft is not exactly lined up and in a bind, I don't know. The shaft to the power director seems to be the only thing stopping the process. Any ideas?

This may be a dumb question, but did you pull out the shaft that the hand clutch lever is attached to?

Funny you should mention it. That's exactly what was holding it up. I thought the hand clutch assy would stay with the front of the tractor. I was wrong. It is now successfully split, and I have to find out how to pull the shaft out that has the bad bearing on it. It is forward of the clutch assy. on the left as you look forward into the front part of the tractor. The rear bearing on this shaft is missing the rollers. The shaft has threads internally, so I'm thinking about rigging a puller up. I'm not sure though wether or not the shaft has a retainer behind the gears that would keep it from being removed. Do you know?
